
Sports Anchor
Yaw Bonsu joined BCSN in March 2025 as a sports anchor and reporter. Prior to this, Yaw was a sports anchor/MSJ for WZZM 13 ON YOUR SIDE in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after graduating from Hofstra University. In this role, he was the weekend sports anchor while reporting stories surrounding sports across the state for weekday newscasts.
In his time at Hofstra, Yaw held 11 internships including an 11-month stint in ABC 7 New York’s sports department, an eight-month stint in NBC 4 New York’s consumer unit, a three-month stint with Fox Sports’ ‘First Things First,’ and two different stints with Fox News (‘The Ingraham Angle’ and ‘Cavuto LIVE.’) He also interned for SiriusXM Fight Nation 156, Varsity Media, and the Bruce Beck Sports Broadcasting Camp.
Yaw was also an NBA on TNT Oscar Pope Lift Every Voice Fellow where he assisted Turner Sports’ team with their 2022 NBA Opening Night Coverage of Lakers vs. Warriors. He conducted a pre-game interview with Juan Toscano Anderson on ‘Inside The NBA’. Yaw returned to Turner Sports as a student sideline reporter for the 2023 Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic.
While in school, Yaw was a part-time weekend news anchor for 77 WABC Radio in New York City.
On campus, Yaw served as sports director for the four-time Marconi Award-winning radio station, WRHU-FM New York. He worked alongside the professional-in-residence to oversee radio operations for the New York Islanders, Long Island Nets, New York Riptide, Long Island Ducks, and Hofstra Athletics. Yaw also served as associate sports director, news anchor/reporter, and producer for the station. He was awarded Ed Ingles Broadcaster of the Year from the station upon graduating.
In May 2024, Yaw was named a First-Team All-American as a part of the Jim Nantz Award. He was also later awarded an Edward R. Murrow Award for best digital reporting in the student division.
Yaw is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists and looks forward to telling stories and building relationships across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
