Central Catholic Pays Tribute to Fran Krompak

It’s a special afternoon on Cherry Street as Central Catholic honors former coach Fran Krompak with a new display in the Sullivan center the sign quite frankly says it all. Fran Krompak is a trailblazer in women’s athletics. Before title 9 was established, 50 years ago, she got the ball rolling in female sports at central as both a phys-ed teacher as well as coaching several sports most notably volleyball and basketball member of five halls of fame including the Ohio basketball hall of fame. The old gym where she spent countless hours teaching practicing and coaching now bears her name. This is one of many surprises this afternoon for the original coach k who has seen the entire progression of women’s athletics from simply battling to get gym time to start in college and professional sports.
